Sheffield Esteli Society (SES) is proud to present a showing of La Yuma. Made in 2009, it is about a young Nicaragua woman who wants to be a boxer and challenges world wide gender stereotypes. With fantastic footage of every day life in Nicaragua and the challenges the young woman faces in trying to get away from gang culture. Donations to SES £5/£3Directed by a woman, Florence Jaugey, the film was selected as the Nicaraguan entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards.
